Selected Presentations from PALS 2025-2026 Season

Seven Essential Conversations
Saturday, October 18

Life is unpredictable and can change in a flash! People suddenly get sick when they seem really healthy—and when does anyone ever plan for suffering a heart attack, stroke or developing Alzheimer’s? Yet with an increasing number of people living well into their 80s, 90s and even 100s, the need to effectively plan ahead has never been more urgent!  Instead, we just keep putting off getting our affairs in order and sharing our wishes with those who’ll have to step in, because we don’t want to think about it, don’t know where to begin or how to broach the topic, and especially what to say.

Thank you to all of our attendees!  The PDF of the presentation is now available – please click here.

May 17, 2025 – Creating Your Living Legacy and Living Will
What matters to you the most and how do you want to be remembered? Is your life just a sum total of your property, possessions and last will and testament?  Or would you rather be known for your achievements and gifts that have impacted others for the better? If so, then don’t miss joining your PALS for this enlightening and informative seminar exploring the LGBTQ+ movement’s rich heritage and the key steps we each can take to create a lasting legacy that will honor, benefit and uplift our community’s future generations for years to come. Please note that this presentation was interrupted by the horrible bombing attack, and will be presented again on February 21, 2026.

Rightsizing Your Life: When is it Time to Let Go?

Navigating the golden years comes with many decisions, the most important is knowing when to downsize, rightsize or upsize your home environment to better fit your current and future life stages. It’s a step that involves financial considerations, lifestyle changes and emotional decisions. And it’s not about letting go of the emotional anchors holding the highs and lows and beautiful chapters of your life and important relationships — it’s about making space for new possibilities that are more manageable and financially beneficial as well as enhancing your comfort and overall quality of life.

Compassionate Caregiving Before and After Reaching Your Limit
Guest Speaker: Quintina Nordman – Care Advocate

Caregiving is an act of love and concern.  These two emotions drive us to exert ourselves on behalf of loved ones, who need our support and attention.  However, we often find ourselves in a satins where we are depleted, and the quality of care we can give is diminished.  This seminar will offer options to circumvent caregiver fatigue and allow participants to share their experiences.  Our guest speaker will present on the challenges and options for optimal caregiving, based on her long-time experience in the field.

Cycling Through Grief – Reclaiming Life After Loss

Answering the phone and learning about the death of a loved one is certainly one of life’s most devastating moments. As long as we live, we will encounter personal and social loss.  Universally, the AIDS epidemic and the resultant widespread death that decimated the gay world’s young population. COVID-19 raged, denying family members the chance to say goodbye. As we get older, we continue to face the personal loss of parents, siblings, partners and friends. Join PALS for an enlightening and candid discussion on the impact of intimate loss and the unique ways LGBTQ+ seniors grieve and evolve through such loss. Psychotherapist Jamie Trachtenberg will illuminate this trajectory, with panelists Christopher Christensen and Atma Wiseman.  We welcome your voice to this life-affirming discussion.
